Elementary Politics at Phoenix Comicon

The writers at Elementary Politics all have a lot of different obsessions. Some of us read books about the Revolutionary War like they’re going out of style, some of us read Supreme Court case briefs for fun, and others like to argue with people about foreign policy.

The one thing we all have in common though is our unrepentant nerdiness. From our entertainment writers engaging in a merry war (or maybe not so merry, if you are the go between on their ‘discussions’) of competing reviews about Marvel movies, and our entertainment editor and editor writing reviews that vigorously defend the DC Extended Universe (Suicide Squad and Dawn of Justice, they argue, did not deserve the criticism they got and they argue that often), and still others critiquing the newest Star Wars films, finding the political messages in Groundhog Day and Tomorrowland, and anything else we can possibly cover that fits in our tagline of politics and pop culture coverage.

At previous Phoenix Comicon events we have covered the creation of Legion M, discussed with attendees the storyline in Captain America that changed Captain America into a Nazi, quizzed Comicon attendees on their knowledge of politicians and superheroes, and discussed feminism in geek culture.

make-metropolisWe hope that this year we will be invited back as media and we have some great coverage plans for this year. We don’t want to give anything away, but we’ll be there doing interviews again and discussing pop culture and politics. Two of our writers have submitted plans for panels that cover both political and philosophical issues in movies and comic culture, which we hope will be selected for the convention schedule.

We’ll update with more information as it becomes available and we hope to see any of our readers that are there this year!
